Humanities

The role of the built environment in shaping and enriching our lives is critical. For Architecture to be truly meaningful it must reflect our society and culture, our values and aspirations. It must truly be a confluence of the two cultures of Science and Humanities to be relevant to our life and times.

The Vertical aims to establish Humanities as the base of our endeavor to create a built environment. This necessitates an integration of the Sciences and Humanities, establishing interconnections between different fields of knowledge and supplementing the technical content of our curriculum with disciplines that deal with human nature, behaviour, culture, values and ideals.

Courses under the Vertical focus on developing a ‘qualitative’ approach towards Architecture and understanding how architecture can shape and enhance human life and help address the issues and challenges of our times.

The importance of being humane, understanding different points of view and making informed decisions while applying technical knowledge gained in School for the betterment of the individual, the profession and society at large is at the core of all explorations undertaken as a part of the Humanities Vertical.
